Michael’s Homemade Guacamole

If you follow on instastories, you know guacamole is a household staple here. While I am fully biased, Michael makes some of the BEST guacamole! We don’t often order guacamole at restaurants because rarely does it compare to the quality of his recipe. Since patio nights are around the corner, let’s dip into this healthy and delicious appetizer!

Essentially he makes a few changes from traditional guacamole recipes:

  • Rather than using jalapeño peppers, he substitutes serrano peppers. This adds a little bump in heat and a bright finish!
  • Bring on the key limes! These little gems pack a powerful punch. Key limes, also known as Mexican limes, are more aromatic than traditional limes. Fresh key lime juice will easily elevate your guac game!
  • My favorite twist in this guacamole recipe: smoked salt! Rather than regular table salt, add a wood-smoked salt. A few of our favorites: oak smoked salt and hickory smoked salt. “Shake” things up a bit and trust us on this one! If you don’t have smoked salt, go with a coarse salt.

Luckily Michael has this recipe down to a science, so I can place the order for Walmart Grocery Pickup and Delivery to get the ingredients ordered quickly!

Homemade Guacamole

It’s important to note, the quantity of these ingredients is flexible to taste. For example, if you want something with more citrus, add more key lime juice. If you like more or less spice, adjust the amount of serrano peppers accordingly. I recommend starting slow and then adding more key lime/salt/spice as you taste. This is fully customizable to your taste palate!

Ingredients:

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix the cilantro, red onion and serrano peppers.
  • Spoon the avocado into the bowl. Pour in key lime juice.
  • Run a knife through the bowl several times to roughly chop up the avocados. The lime juice will help break it down.
  • Add salt. Mix with a large fork. Optional: gently mix in diced tomatoes.
  • Grab a tasting spoon and sample. Add additional cilantro, peppers, onion or salt, as desired.
  • Decide whether or not to share with others. Grab a margarita and enjoy!
