House Update #1 | New Windows!!

Howdy, friends! What a joyful week it’s been! There was a lot of work to be done, but a lot of progress made on the house as well. For starters, earlier in the week I had new windows installed!

When I bought the home I knew that was going to be a project to tackle in the beginning. The original windows were in fact original. They have been able to tell 62 years worth of stories. Imagine the storms they have survived, the families who have looked through their glass to watch for the school bus, the puppies that have pressed their faces against their panes.

While some of the original windows kept a little 1950’s vibe, they were not energy efficient, had a hazy tone and notable wear and tear. The original windows had a good life, but it was time to bring in new windows. So, in with the new!

There were 15 windows taken out and 13 installed. Two of the windows were combined into one large window to maximize the view and natural lighting. The front of the house has decorative grids on the windows, and the remainder of the windows are without grids.

What a difference these windows have made! The rooms are brighter, the house is more energy efficient and the appearance has greatly improved. Each morning I sit in my kitchen and stare out at the giant picture window, admiring the view as I sip my coffee. Oh, do these windows shine so bright!

Window treatments still need to be added, so the complete look is still in process.

Additionally, new furniture has started to be delivered! For someone who has never had new furniture this has been quite the treat!! I have been waiting, through college and graduate school, until I get a new house to make the plunge on furniture. So far I couldn’t be happier.

I went with a neutral palette for the furniture. As the seasons change or tastes change, I can easily replace accent pillows for a different look. The first to arrive was an off-white linen sofa with nail accents. The couch came with five pillows that I am using until new ones arrive.

If I go missing for a couple days, you know where to find me:  lounging on my new sofa. Y’all what a fresh, inviting feeling I get from this sofa when I walk into the room!

There is also a new, large area rug for the living area. Since the house is almost completely hardwood floors, the rug provides an added cozy element. It is semi-shag so your feet are hugged by the extra thick, soft fibers.

I plan on doing regular updates on the house, so if you haven’t subscribed, be sure to enter your information into that little bar on the right.

Hope y’all have a wonderful start to your week!

Live your life joyfully so,

Ashley
