Weekend Getaway to Austin

We were able to kick up our boots and enjoy a weekend getaway in Austin and the Texas Hill Country, filled with good food and spring fashion.

Last weekend we made a quick trip down to Austin and the Texas Hill Country west of Austin to visit family. The area west of Austin is so pretty – you truly feel like you are in a different part of the country with rolling hills, turns lined with cacti and early spring blue bonnets. Kick up your boots with us as we dive into some hotspots from this weekend getaway to Austin and the Texas Hill Country.

On our first day we ventured out to a couple of towns an hour west of Austin, Horseshoe Bay and Marble Falls. Filled with a mix of locals and visitors, these lakeside towns have cute shops, golf courses and plenty of delicious food. Our favorite: Blue Bonnet Cafe. Voted Travel & Leisure Magazine’s Top 100 Breakfasts, it did not disappoint! They are most known for their pies, so several people had pie with their breakfast – my kind of meal!

After time in the Hill Country, Michael and I went into Austin for a little time together. We stayed at the beautiful Omni Barton Creek Resort, which was recently remodeled and has a Chip and Joanna Gaines style of interior decor. The room had a couch near the window with picturesque views overlooking a giant valley and golf course. In true Texas fashion, the weather was perfect for a sun dress and booties.

Our favorite stop in Austin was definitely Loro, a fusion restaurant by the famous barbecue master, Aaron Franklin, and sushi chef, Tyson Cole. The food was Asian smokehouse – and it was so good! A lot of places in Austin have a great patio and outdoor area. This particular outdoor eating area had several swings nestled under charming string lights. But my favorite of all was the frozen Vietnamese coffee!

Along with relaxing, we made a couple shopping trips. I loved the artwork inside Austin’s Lilly Pulitzer store! (Navy dress and striped dress below.)

At the end of the day, it was so relaxing to be able to kick up our feet and stare over the Texas sky. We made s’mores, drank wine and enjoyed each other’s company.

With a town filled with an exceptional food and live music culture, we cannot wait to return soon for another weekend getaway to Austin. If you live in Austin or have vacationed there before, I would love to hear any recommendations.

Live your life joyfully so,

Ashley
